DEAR (nee Grice), Mary E. - 91, of Cape May, NJ, formerly of Jamaica Queens, NY, peacefully passed away on September 16, 2016. Mary grew up in Aberdeen, NC. She was a daughter to Edward Grice and Ella Stone Grice. Mary worked as a secretary for the Social Security Department in New York and she was a devout member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Jamaica Queens, NY. An avid bowler, Mary won many championship bowling trophies; however, she most enjoyed volunteering in her church’s soup kitchen, dining out and shopping. Affectionately known as “Aunt Mary,” she relished her time spent with various church activities, precious friends and loving family. Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert Dear and son, Alan Dear. She is survived by one grandson, Anthony Freeman of Wildwood, NJ and five great grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews as well as a host of great and great great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 11am until 11:50am on Friday (Sept. 23rd) with services immediately following and beginning at 12pm at Grace Episcopal Church, 155-15 Jamaica Ave, Jamaica Queens, NY. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A Cape May, New Jersey Memorial Service will be held on Saturday (Oct. 8th) at 10am at the Episcopal Church of Advent, corner of Washington and Franklin Sts., Cape May, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to: The Ruth Anderson Scholarship Fund, 450 Green St., West Cape May, NJ 08204.
