Donald W. Albert, age 90, of Brighton, Illinois passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, May24, 2018.

Don was born in Fidelity, Illinois on October 23, 1927, then after spending his youth in Fidelity and Piasa, lived in Brighton nearly all of his adult life. He began farming at a young age, and while he retired in 1996, he remained a farmer at heart to the very end. He greatly enjoyed his visits with family and friends and watching crops grow was high on his list of favorite things. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years and served his community for many years on the board of the Brighton Betsey Ann Fire Department and also as a trustee for Brighton Township. His life exemplified honesty, hard work, loyalty and the importance of giving back.

A devoted family man, he was married to Christine (Matthews) Albert in 1955 until the time of her passing in 1980 and was then married to Charlotte (Niemeyer-Stephens) Albert in 1984 until her passing in 2016.

He leaves behind one brother Lawrence Albert of Brighton, and children Tracy Albert Owens of Alton, Illinois, Donna Albert Hubbard (Ed) of Wood River, Illinois, Carol Stephens Wallace (Phil) of Rocky Mount, Missouri, Charles Stephens (Nancy) of Grayslake, Illinois, Sandy Stephens Aper (Jeff) of Decatur, Illinois and Robert Stephens (Kathy) of Chesterfield, Missouri, son-in-law Scott Peabody of Jerseyville, Illinois, thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a sister-in law Norma Wallace (Niemeyer) of Grafton, and nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Mabel Albert, three siblings Clemence Albert, Cathern (Albert) Matthews, and Loyd Albert, a step-daughter Sue (Stephens) Peabody, and a daughter-in-law Susan (Bush) Stephens.

Masonic Services will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30th at Targhetta & Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30th at Targhetta & Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton, Illinois.

Services will also be held at the funeral home, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 31st. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Bethalto, Illinois.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church of Brighton, Illinois or the Brighton Betsey Ann Fire Department.
