Gordon Cecil (Pappy) Driver, 88, of Dayton, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at his home.

He was born in Briery Branch on June 1, 1929, and was a son of the late Martin L., Sr., and Beulah (Wine) Driver.

Gordon was a dairy and poultry farmer. He was an active member of the Briery Branch Church of the Brethren, where he held various positions. He was one of the founders and a lifetime member of the Clover Hill Fire and Rescue. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War as a medic. He actively served in the Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief for over 20 years, both, at home and abroad. He was a member of the National Dairy Association. Gordon rode his motorcycle until he was in his 80's. He traveled to Florida for the winters for over 20 years and attended Lakeport Christian Church.

He was united in marriage on June 3, 1950 to Virginia (Staubus) Driver, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Phyllis Watson and husband Don, of Staunton, Betty Estes and husband Ken “Festus”, of Verona, and Patty Bleazard and husband George, of Rockingham; his son, Gary Driver and wife Belinda "Beanie” of Linville; four sisters, Fay Botkins and husband Charles, of Briery Branch, Waltine Begoon, of Bridgewater, Agnes Sager, of Harrisonburg, and Alda Revercomb, of Briery Branch; a brother, Martin Luther "Jr." Driver, Jr. and wife Madeline, of Mt. Solon. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Anthony Estes, Fox Paulette and husband Chris, Ava Speciale and husband Don, Amy McMullen and husband Travis, and Alissa Coates and husband Austin; six great grandchildren, Zoelle Bleazard, Trevor McMullen, Lauren McMullen, Corbin Paulette, Stella Speciale, and Niko Paulette.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Paul Bleazard, son-in-law, Jim Carper, a sister, Gay Simmers, and a brother, Jerry Driver.

A funeral service will be held at Briery Branch Church of the Brethren at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 31, 2018 with Pastor Randy Cosner and Pastor Kathy Puffenbarger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 and the family will receive friends at home.
