Robert Leonard, "Bob" Anderson, 74-year-old Oakley resident died from a heart attack on October 7, 2001, at his home in Oakley. He was born October 17, 1926, in Paul, the third son of nine children of James Fredrick and Marie Babbit Anderson.


He received his education in Oakley and later served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Bob married Norma Jean Stormy Backsen on February 14, 1964, in Elko, Nevada. She preceded him in death on September 16, 1997. Bob loved fishing and hunting and was a collector of antiques. He was a great rock mason having worked in the rock quarry near Oakley for many years. Bob also worked for the highway district. He had a wonderful sense of humor and also had an uplifting personality, even when dealing with Parkinson's disease. He will be greatly missed.


Survivors include two brothers, Richard Linda Anderson of Oakley and Arlo G. Gloria Anderson of Pocatello; two sisters, Ora Elaine Frank Kohlbaker of Sacramento, California, and Virginia Wilkens of Spokane, Washington; a brother-in-law, Tino Choa Backsen and a sister-in-law, Julie Backsen; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2001, at the Payne Memorial Chapel, 221 West Main Street in Burley, with Bishop Denny Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Oakley Cemetery, with military rites under the direction of local veterans.
