Jesup – Larry C. Anderson, 73, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of South Georgia. He was a native and lifelong resident of Wayne County. At age 21 he was hired as the plant supervisor at Bagwell Steel which later became American Welding & Tank Company. He worked learning the business and supervising the workers for 7 years during which time he earned a reputation as being knowledgeable, willing to work with the employees and being fair. He then decided to try his hand at construction. He worked several construction sites in the Southeast and shortly after being hired was given the job of site supervisor. After a few years he started building and insulating houses and built numerous houses in the coastal and southeast area. After retirement he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren camping and refinishing antique tractors as well as spending time with his retired friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and a protector to brother and sister. He had a “pied piper” personality and children were drawn to him, even if he didn’t know them. He taught the 3-5 Year old Sunday school class for many years and on occasion would see a young person who remembered with gratitude his teaching them Sunday school. His family yard was the place neighborhood kids chose to play and referred to him as “Papa”. The children were his pride and joy over the years and were til his last day. He served as a deacon at Old Bethel Baptist Church for 33 years and was the contractor when new bathrooms were constructed several years ago. He loved mission work and was involved in numerous trips up and down the southeast U.S. where he used his knowledge and ability as a builder to help start or finish construction on Southern Baptist Churches. He was preceded in death by his son, Derrick Anderson, parents, Cleyon and Dora Anderson, and grandparents, Budley and Lala Anderson.

Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Doris B. Anderson; son, Kevin Anderson, both of Jesup; sister and brother-in-law, Marcia and James White of Odum; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Janice Anderson of Jesup; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 25 at 11 AM at Old Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Ledbetter and Rev. Wayne Williamson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be David Graham, Jimmy Jones, Tim Connor, Roger McColloch, Joey Hayes, Wesley Love, and Randy Herrin.

Remembrances are suggested to Old Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 171, Jesup, GA 31598.
