Charles Robert Snyder, 46, died unexpectedly April 2, 2007, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska.
Chuck was born Feb. 6, 1961, in Chico, Butte County, Calif., to Charles Leslie and Bernice Lucille (Halderson) Snyder. He moved to Alaska in 1990 and lived in Homer. In 1992, he moved to Anchor Point and lived there until moving to Kenai in 2000.
He worked for Icicle Seafoods, Gates Mill, Pensko Auto, Northern Enterprises and Ron's Rent-It Center.
He was a member of the Kenai Moose Family Center. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and the wilderness.
"Chuck was a special person to most people he met," his family said. "He was energetic, strong and had a wonderful spirit. Even though he never got anything most of the time, he still loved to fish and hunt. Whenever he went to a lake and he had a fishing pole in hand, it was as if he was in heaven.
"He was one of the last real men. He had an unquenchable fire of spirit and a mighty heart. He was forever helpful, even to strangers. Being strong, steadfast and loyal, no man could ever ask for a better brother. Go with God, my brother, fair winds and following seas. He was a great man, father and giant. He inspired loyalty in his friends and family."
"He will be remembered," they added, "and his memory will never die."
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charles Leslie Snyder, and stepfather, David J. Lemon.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Snyder of Kenai, Alaska; sons, David Allen, Michael James Snyder and Jason Snyder, all of Kenai, and Charles Snyder Jr. of Soldotna, Alaska; mother, Bernice L. Lemon; and sister, Dawn M. Lemon, both of Fort Bragg, Calif.; brothers, Clyde L. Snyder of Myrtle Creek, Oregon and Scott D. Lemon of Fort Bragg, California; two sisters Tena LaRue of Covington, Washington and Debra Nussbaum of Spanaway, Washington, and his Alaska brother by heart, Fritz Elefritz of Anchor Point.
