He was born in Staten Island, New York, to Thomas R and Ginette H Dempsey.
After graduating Denbigh High School in 1981, Mick began training in the local carpenters union becoming a journeyman working in Hampton Roads. Mick attended Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) and graduated with an Associates in Applied Science in Electronics Technology. After graduating TNCC with highest honors, Mick decided to continue his education and his love for mathematics by enrolling in Virginia Tech and later graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. From Virginia Tech, Mick began working in the Salem/Roanoke area as an Engineer/Technician in programmable logic and process controls. His final employment was with Coca-Cola.
A part of his early childhood was spent in Catholic Sunday school at Fort Eustis Chapel. He loved swimming, bowling, ping pong and later becoming proficient in disc golf and played at the masters level in tournaments around the state of Virginia. He is survived by his brothers Christian J, James A, and Timothy E Dempsey; his niece and nephew Bridgette and Michael Dempsey.
A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Saturday in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Newport News, Va..
Burial took place in Peninsula Memorial Park.
