Rev. Donal V. Brummitt, age 82, 608 Locust St. #7, Elizabethton died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 in Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Rev. Brummitt was a native of St. Charles, VA and a son of the late Rev. George Washington and Rennie Tyree Brummitt. He most recently attended Living By Faith Church of God. Rev. Brummitt served in the US Army in WWII and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. While in service, he also received his Medical Badge and worked with the medical team.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Brummitt was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Hurley Brummitt, one son, Paul Brummitt, two sisters and one brother.
Survivors are five daughters: Linda Williams, of the home, Rena Bray, Elizabethton, Theresa Baker, Donna Collins, Dorothy Collins, all of Johnson City, five sons: Melvin Brummitt, Elizabethton, Kenneth Brummitt, Donald Junior Brummitt, both of Johnson City, David Brummitt, Piney Flats, Daniel Brummitt, Oak Ridge, eighteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one sister, Jahillia Greer, Johnson City, and one brother, Clarence Brummitt, Traveler's Rest, SC, special friend and former wife, Hazel Brummitt Glover, Johnson City and special friend Airman Jonathan Fisher, US Air Force, serving in Korea. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service for Rev. Brummitt will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12 in Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Dallas Hartley officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom Post No. 2166. Active pallbearers will be Ron Kacmar, Nathaniel Collins, James Brummitt, Michael Hartsook, David Gene Brummitt and Darrell Bray, Jr.
