Corky was my Mom's cousin. I have so many fond memories of him as I was growing up. What a loss to his family, friends and his community of Ravenswood. He touched the lives of so many and his sudden passing leaves us all heartbroken. He will be terribly missed.

Lawrence Edward “Corky” McCorkle, 69, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away on June 3, 2018, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

He was born on December 18, 1948, in Charleston, WV, son of the late Robert Franklin and Janis Harland McCorkle.

Corky was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ravenswood. He was a graduate of Dupont High School and the West Virginia Institute of Technology. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard in Charleston, WV. Corky was treasurer of the Ravenswood Development Authority, and member of the Homebuilders Association. He was a former industrial arts teacher at Ravenswood High School, retired contractor and accomplished master carpenter, and was a community volunteer. He was an organ donor.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jeanie McCorkle; children, Mike McCorkle and his wife Brenda of Parkersburg, WV; Melissa “Missy” Lavin and her husband Michael of Versailles, KY; the light of his life was his grandchildren, Kylee and Addison of Parkersburg, WV, and Shaun and Emerson of Versailles, KY; sister, Linda Hall and her husband Roger of Charleston, WV; nephews, Brad Hall of Teays Valley, WV, and Rob Hall of Sod, WV.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Pastor Chris Skeens officiating. Burial will follow in Ravenswood Cemetery with full graveside military rites provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard.

Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Thursday, June, 7, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, time of service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Ravenswood Development Authority, c/o Ravenswood City Hall, 212 Walnut Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164, for community improvement. His long-term vision was to see a marina at the Ravenswood Riverfront Park.
