Albert Edgar Coker, 70, died on September 5, 2015 at a local hospital.
Mr. Coker was a 1963 graduate of Howard High School. Higher education included a B.S. in Criminal Justice from UTC. He served as first lieutenant in the U. S. Army. Employment included a position in model cities, special assistant to the commissioners of fire and police, police captain, and security and protective service director. He was a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a faithful member of New Monumental Baptist Church.
Mr. Coker was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Romaine and Mrs. Garth B. Coker, and a sister, Ms. Beulah Thomas.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Dora. They had two sons: Albert II, and the late Corey B. Coker; one granddaughter: Jaila Y. Coker; two grandsons: Corey II, and Kaylon Coker and one daughter-in-law, Tenisha of Rincon, GA; brother, Gueron Coker, an attentive niece, Kristi C. Milner, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 10, at New Monumental Baptist Church. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and the family will receive friends from 7–8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
