Orville E. Shields
FAIRFIELD - Orville E. Shields, 75, died Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Jefferson County Hospital. He had suffered a heart attach March 14.
Born March 23, 1892 in Wapello County, he was the son of Newton and Almeda Lathrop Shields. He married Elizabeth Millard March 23, 1915. She survives.
He lived in Fairfield 30 years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Bethesda Church; Jefferson Lodge 4 of the IOOF; Iowa Encampment 6; and Rebekah Lodge 96.
Survivors also include one daughter, Dorothy Elliott of Libbertyville; one son, Everett Shields of Fairfield; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Bennett of Blakesburg; and one brother, Wilbur of Ottumwa.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Weston Behner Funeral Home.
Open House At Fairfield 1965
FAIRFIELD, --Mr. and Mrs. Orville Shields, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday. They will be honored with open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the home of their son, Everett and his family, at 500 S. Third St.
Orville and Elizabeth Millard Shields were married at the home of her parents, March 23, 1915. The Rev. Joseph Clair from the Pleasant Home Methodist Church near Blakesburg officiated. Both were born and, raised between Blakesburg and Ottumwa.
The couple have two children, Mrs. Marlin Elliott of Libertyville and Everett of Fairfield, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
