On June 11, 2018, Dixie Lee (Arthur) Angus of Cowen, West Virginia, and a resident of Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon, WV, went home to heaven and into the waiting arms of Jesus and her beloved husband, Wyatt “Gene” Angus, who preceded her in death.

Dixie was born on October 22, 1928, in Cowen, WV. Her parents are the late Dr. George “Esley” Arthur and Ada (Sigman) Arthur of Cowen, WV. Dixie and Gene had three children, Elizabeth Kay Ellison (late husband Larry Ellison) of Buckhannon, WV; Arthur Gene Angus (wife Judy) of Cross Lanes, WV; and Joyce Lee Harris-Thacker (husband Steve Thacker) of Buckhannon, WV. Dixie had four grandchildren, Christopher Ellison, wife Jennifer, son Parker and daughter Mallory of Fairmont, WV; Derrick Ellison and son Jake Ellison of Craigsville, WV; Natalie (Harris) Hissam, husband Larry Hissam and sons Trey and Gavin Hissam of Fairmont, WV; and Josh Angus of Portland, Oregon.

Dixie had four sisters, Helen (Arthur) Benton of Hurt, Virginia, who survives. She was preceded in death by sisters Betty (Arthur) Mattox of Hurt, VA; Rose (Arthur) Critzer of Covington, VA; and Bethel (Arthur) Angus of Cowen, WV. Dixie had many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins of both the Arthur and Angus families that she dearly loved and who dearly loved her.

Dixie and Gene Angus lived at the WV American Baptist Camp in Cowen, WV (Camp Cowen) for twenty years where Gene was the Maintenance Manager and Dixie supervised and cooked in the camp kitchen. Their extended Baptist Camp Cowen family is extensive after 28 years of service there. Dixie and Gene were greatly loved by many staffers and campers from throughout the state of West Virginia. Gene passed away in 1987. Now, after 31 years apart, Dixie and Gene are together again at last and rejoicing in heaven with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! No doubt, Dixie is tending to the flowers, which she dearly loved to do, along with decorating and rearranging the furniture in their heavenly mansion there!

There will be a celebration of Dixie’s life at the Baptist Church in Cowen, WV, on Saturday, June 16, 2018. There will be a visitation period on Saturday prior to the funeral at the church from 12:00 p.m. noon until 2 p.m. with the funeral starting a 2 p.m. There will be a time of food and fellowship following the funeral at the WV Baptist Camp at Cowen. Please join us as we share our memories of Dixie and celebrate together her life and the impact she had on us all.

Interment will follow in the Odd Fellow Cemetery, Cowen, WV.
