Charles was born in Virginia and was the seventh child born of nine to Henry and Delilah Hunt Jones. He married Lee Ellen Gililland in Lincoln County, Missouri on December 25, 1892. Pete, as he called and Lee lived in St. Louis. They had three girls, Eva Hunt, Ruth and little Mildred Fay who died at only two years old.
