Canton - On Thursday, June 14, 2018, Margaret Anne Sechrest Abbott, age 80, a beautiful and kind lady who was a blessing to everyone that knew her, entered into her glorious heavenly home.

Mrs. Abbott was born March 23, 1938 in Haywood County to the late, J.R. Sechrest, Jr. and the late Louise Wiggs Sechrest.

Anne was well known as an outstanding young lady as she grew up in Canton, graduating from Canton High School in 1956 and later attending Florida State University where she received a BS Degree in Education. Anne held a true love and concern for all children and she will always be remembered by the many students she taught at Bethel and Pennsylvania Avenue Elementary Schools during her teaching career.

She retired from the Haywood County School System with 20 dedicated years of nurturing and making a difference in the lives of the children whom she taught. Mrs. Abbott was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church, where she established their kindergarten program which was well known throughout Western North Carolina. Her love of animals was truly evident throughout her life and her dog, Nikki, held a special place in her heart and will always be with her. Anne's strength and courage was an example for each of us to follow as she never gave up in her battle against multiple sclerosis.

For the past 20 years Anne had made her home at Silver Bluff Village where she was actively involved in all activities and special events and was also responsible for the daily announcements. It was often said that Anne brought a ray of sunshine to Silver Bluff Village and her presence will be missed each and every day. Let us think of Anne and remember that those we love can never be more than a thought away-for as long as there's a memory, they live in our hearts to stay.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Sechrest.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years and the love of her life, George R. Abbott of Canton; a son, Gary Michael Abbott and Kerri of Naperville, Illinois; her grandchildren, Marissa of Atlanta, Georgia, and Ryan of Naperville, Illinois; and a multitude of dear friends.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.
