Earl Eugene Williams was the only son born to J.R.C. Williams and Carrie Elizabeth Hamilton. Known as "Toe-Head" to his sisters, he was born in January of 1917 in the rural area of Winona Township in Shannon County, Missouri. Earl moved north with his family shortly after he was born, as his father took a job at the American Car Foundry in Madison County, Illinois. Earl's mother Carrie became pregnant again in 1920, but died six weeks in as a result of a miscarriage. Young Earl and the rest of the Williams family carried on in Venice Township, until tragically, in November of 1923, Earl contracted pneumonia and died shortly thereafter.
