Chaffee — Alvin P. Denton, 88 years old, of Chaffee, died Tuesday night at 8 in a Charleston nursing home. He had resided at Cooter, before moving to Chaffee in 1921.
Mr. Denton was employed by The Frisco Railroad, and later worked for the City of Chaffee Water Department. Ill health forced him to retire three years ago.
He was born April 22, 1882, in Perry County, Tenn. He was married to the former Miss Grace Wagster of Gibson County, Tenn., on March 3, 1906, in Blytheville, Ark. She survives at the home.
Other survivors Include a son, Howard C. Denton, Chaffee; eight daughters, Mrs T. D. Corgiat, Cape Girardeau, Mrs. H.H. Gateley, Danville, Ky., Mrs. J. L. Humphreys, Scott City, Mrs. Paul Gallagher, Binghampton, N. Y., Mrs. E. D. Kimes, Princeton, Mrs Palmer Bode, Oglesby, Ill., and Mrs. Gene Biler Jr. and Mrs. John E. Biler, both of Chaffee, 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The body is at the BisplInghoff Funeral Home in Chaffee where friends may call tonight after 7 o'clock.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at the First Assembly of God Church in Chaffee, where Mr. Denton was a member. The pastor, the Rev. Wm. Marshall, will officiate, with burial in Union Park Cemetery here.
