Schatze was a miniature Schnauzer with a long pedigree. She was especially devoted to my father and would always be near him and give him a long greetings when he returned after an absence. She had a number of health issues including Schnauzer rash, a benign tumor that developed on her tail and heart issues. We had a restaurant and bar business and Schatze would be invited into the bar during the late evening shift when she would be fed food she never should not have eaten.

The family business occupied two buildings that were connected. Schatze begged food, and if she did not get anything during the family dinner she would go down the stairs to the adjoining build and go up a long flight of stairs to the apartment of the grandparents and uncles. Once there, she would bark until the door opened and she got a snack.
