Hilmer Elwood Koopmann, 80, died Monday, June 18th.
He was born July 6th, 1937, the 6th child of Lillie Anna Hengst Koopmann and Wilhelm Otto Koopmann.

Born and raised in the Gruenau Community, he attended Yorktown Schools after the Weldon Country School was consolidated, served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963 and returned to farm and ranch with his father and brother, William, until his death. Somewhat the family historian, he was the author of an extensive history of the Gruenau area prepared for the 100th Anniversary in 1998 of the Gruenau Turn and Schuetezen Verein. Hilmer could still speak and translate written German. His family and community have lost a valuable resource.

Hilmer was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, Gilbert and Melvin and sister, Doris Ann von Roeder.

He is survived by sisters and brother. Also, sister-in-law and seven nephews and three nieces.

The family wishes to thank Aaron and Erin Koopmann and Karen Koenig for their help since his recent cancer diagnoses.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm, Thursday, June 21st, at Massey Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will be at Massey Funeral Home on Friday, June 22nd, at 2pm.
Interment to follow at Westside Cemetery.
