ay Dee Keller, 85, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on June 19, 2018, in Kansas City.
Jay Dee was born in King City, Missouri, to Jesse Clark and Ada Katherine Keller on September 24, 1932.
After graduating from King City High School in 1949, Jay Dee attended the School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri, studying engineering. He spent the majority of his career as a process piping engineer with J.F. Pritchard & Company but also worked at Litwin Engineering, C.W. Nofsinger and Procter and Gamble.
Jay Dee was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as Staff Sergeant as part of a C-119 flight crew during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He was immensely proud and excited to be honored for his service with an Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2017. He was a 50-year member of American Legion Post 132 in King City.
He married Darlyne on August 3, 1960, and while divorced, they remained close friends and family.
His son Patrick could often be found at his side as they shared a love of machinery and gadgets, tinkering around one of their garages or attending a motorcycle swap meet. An active duck and goose hunter, Jay Dee was a lifelong member of Ducks Unlimited and never missed an opportunity to share a duck blind with his son Michael, a celebrated duck caller. Hunting also gave him another of his greatest pleasures, the companionship of his beloved and loyal Labradors, Nellie and Molly. He shared a love of engineering with his son Brad, who also worked as a draftsman for many years. Jay Dee was an avid supporter and patron of the Gallatin Theater League and enjoyed watching his daughter, Jan, and theater members in a variety of productions. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was always ready to accept a second helping of whatever meal Darlyne had whipped up in the kitchen.
Jay Dee is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Clark and Ada Katherine Keller, brother, Leroy, and infant sister; and his son, Michael Keller.
He is survived by Darlyne Keller and children Patrick Keller, and Brad (Kathy) Hayes of Kansas City, and Jan Stout (Mark Gay) of Gallatin, Missouri; grandchildren Amanda (Thomas) Byard (children, Andrew and Ashlyn) of Topeka, Kansas, Laura Hayes of Harrisonville, Missouri, Kaitlyn (Eric) Bunch (children, William, Vivian, and Helen) of Kansas City, Megan (Sawyer) DeWitt of Gravois Mills, Missouri, and Michael (Kristin) Stout of Liberty Hill, Texas; nieces Patricia (and the late, DeWayne) Davis (children, Mark, Matthew, and Jody) of Blue Springs, Missouri, Janice (Gregory) Emerson (children, Jada and Nikki) of Heidelberg, Germany, and nephew Terry (Kelly) Keller (child, Jessica) of Milford, Oregon.
