Norma B. Caflisch, 95, of Baraboo, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at St. Clare Meadows Care Center.
Norma was born Oct. 23, 1922, in Ableman (Rock Springs), the daughter of Walter and Elsa (Pfaff) Behnke. She attended grade school in Ableman and Baraboo High School, graduating in 1940. She married Virgil Caflisch in 1943, and together they owned and operated the Caflisch Creamery/Dairy Store in Baraboo until 1966. Norma then worked various jobs in the area which included the Badger Army Ammunition Plant in the Safety Department during World War II and as a security guard at the plant during the Vietnam War. She also worked at St. Clare Hospital as an admissions clerk until her retirement.
During her free time, Norma loved to travel and made many trips to foreign countries. Some of which included the Holy Land, China, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and several trips to Europe. Norma was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her three children, Connie (Wayne) Richards of Janesville, Robert (Diane Kunz) Caflisch of Madison and Craig (Jayne Englebert) Caflisch of Baraboo; two grandchildren, Carrie (Scott) DeBauch of Waukesha and Bradley Richards of Janesville; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Colton DeBauch. She is also survived by her two sisters, Joyce Karg and Donna (Gerald) Brook, all of Baraboo; one brother, James (June) Behnke of Reedsburg; special niece, Sandra (Joseph) Naquin of Baraboo; and many other nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by two brothers, infant Arnold Behnke, and Durlin “Budd” Behnke; three sisters, Lois Hartung, Pearl Edwards and Elizabeth Severson
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 624 East St., Baraboo, with Pastor Tim Kuske officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. A private family interment will be held in Walnut Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorials in memory of Norma may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School, Baraboo.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Clare Meadows Care Center and SSM Hospice for the care given to Norma during her stay. The Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
