He was a trustee of Kingston, president of the trustee board, magistrate, and president of the Court of Magistrates in 1737. He was a doctor of the community and Deacon of the Old Dutch Church. He was also active in military affairs, receiving a commission as Captain of the Ulster County Militia in 1700 from the Earl of Belmont. In 1738 he became Major of the Ulster County Militia. Because of this military service his name in on the honor roll of the Society of Colonial Wars and on the honor roll of the Society of Colonial Dames.
