Son of Johannes I Dubois and Judeke Wynkoop. He married Geertje VanVliet and they had several children including Maria, Johannes, Judic, Derrick, Josiah, and Hannah. Cornelius joined the Continental Army in the War of Independence against Great Britain and served as a quartermaster from Ulster Co NY 1st Regiment and he was promoted to Lieutenant. His great grandfather was Louis Dubois the French Huguenot from northern France who arrived in NY in the 1600s and founded the town of New Palz, NY.
