Violet M. Brown, 79, Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland. Born Oct. 26, 1921, in Forman, W.Va,, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Justina (Lahman) Secrist. She was also preceded in death by one son, Larry N. Brown; three sisters; and one brother. She was a member of the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church, Elk Garden, W.Va. Surviving are her husband, Edwin T. Brown; one daughter, Sylvia Butler, McHenry; one son, Dale E. Brown, Oakland, one sister Maxine Winters, Keyser, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. Services were held at the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church on Sunday, Sept. 30, with the Rev. Donald Marple officiating. Interment was in the Bayard Cemetery, Bayard, W.Va.
