He was a retired engineer with WakeMed and was a former minister and firefighter. Born in Martin County, he was the son of the late Clifford Merrill and Nona Cooper Ange.
Surviving: his wife, Helen Morgan Ange; four children; sister, Rachel Day (Cecil) of Middlesex; brother, Cliff Ange (Mary) of Chesapeake, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
