RUSSELL JAMES WEAVER, of TOMS RIVER, died Tuesday, April 24, after a long illness. He was born Aug. 7, 1916, in Mauch Chunck, (Jim Thorpe) Pa.

During his youth, his family moved to Newark, where he attended school and later played minor league baseball. Russell had work experiences as a deliveryman, railroad fireman, apartment superintendent and finally as owner of Garden State Lettering Service Inc. in Rahway from 1962 to 1992. Russell and Ruth spent many summers in Point Pleasant and traveled to Vero Beach, Fla., for extended vacations for many decades. In 1992, both Russell and his wife Ruth retired to Sonata Bay, Bayville. He attended St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Brick, where he served as an usher and sang in the men's chorus. Recently they moved to Toms River.

Russell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Lange Weaver; two children and their spouses, Diane and Zintars Dale, and Larry and Jutta Weaver. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tyler McClimon and his wife Tara, Travis McClimon, Allison Wenzel and her husband Juergen, and Erich Weaver and his girlfriend Suzanne Pollak; and a great-grandson, Cory McClimon.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, with a funeral service at 8 p.m. at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. Cremation will be private.
