April 7, 1940 – March 19, 2018

Joanne Doyle Wilhide passed away at home on the morning of March 19th, 2018 after ten years of bravely fighting and struggling with stage IV Ovarian Cancer. She was the wife of the late Commander C.R. (Buck) Wilhide. She was the daughter of James Patrick Doyle of Ireland and Catherine McLaughlin Doyle of Chester, Pennsylvania. She is survived by a brother, Harry Doyle of California , a sister Kathleen Peppleman of Pennsylvania, a son Bill Williams of Pennsylvania, four stepsons, David, Brian, Walter and Doug Wilhide and one step daughter, Lynne Storer. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren along with numerous friends.

Joanne was born at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania on April 7, 1940. She attended Our Lord of Resurrection Grammar School and Notre Dame High School both in Pennsylvania. While attending school she participated in track, basketball, acted in school plays and sang solos at School convocations. She married Frank Williams in 1959 and they divorced in 1967.

Joanne worked at American Viscose Corporation in Pennsylvania from 1958 to 1962. She then worked at Delaware County National Bank from 1967 to 1971. After her marriage to Buck she moved to Virginia . From 1978 to 2011 - 33 years - she worked in Arlington for the Government Contracting firm of Northrop Grumman Corporation A major part of that time she served as administrative assistant to three Vice Presidents, John Alison, Togo West, and Robert Helm. In 1972 she worked briefly as Roberta McCain's social secretary - mother of Senator John McCain.

Joanne hated to miss out on anything. Since her diagnosis ten years and up until the last two months, she never passed up an invitation for dinners, movies, weddings, parties and just about any social event. She had a tremendous will to live and she will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held on April 14th, 2018, at 11:00am at Demaine Funeral Home on Backlick Road in Springfield, Virginia. A small reception will follow at Demaine. She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
