Mary Ellen was a very hard worker at a very young age. Her first job as surgical technician was at Burdine Clinic in Copperhill, Tenn. Later she worked at the Copper Basin Hospital ,where she assisted on most surgical cases.
After her children were grown, she moved to Chattanooga, where she worked as a Surgical Technician. She assisted on the first total ankle repair. She retired after 40 years at Parkridge Medical Center as a Certified Orthopedic Surgical Technician. Mary Ellen made friends wherever life took her. She was a loyal, considerate, and passionate person regarding her work and her family.
Her family included, Diana Lynn (Richard) Phillips, of Chattanooga; Sherry Jean (Jack) Roof, of Mineral Bluff, Ga.; Robby (Kathy) Nichols, of Delmar, N.Y.; Lucas (Miranda) Roof, of Mineral Bluff, Ga.; special great-grandchildren; Henry James and Stella J. Nichols, Lila Quinn Roof; siblings include; Melvin (Ulean) Harper, Mineral Bluff, GA; Charles Harper, of Cleveland,Tenn.; Lillian(George) Bailey, of Mineral Bluff, Ga. Preceded in death by Margie Kirkland, Elsie Harper, and Vivian Henson.
Mary Ellens hobbies included gardening, reading, and cooking for her family. She always had the loveliest flowers on her block. Mary Ellen was a member of The Brainerd Baptist Church for 36 years. She treasured her church family, Bethnany Sunday School Class. Also, she kept in touch with her high school classmates. Memorial contributions may be made to your local organizations. Mary Ellens family appreciates the Memorial Hospital nurses, doctors, and therapists who took such wonderful care of their mother.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 4, 2016, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson.
