Bettie Elaine Strickland, age 87, of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Baptist Health System, Jackson, MS.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 3:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Stan Clark, officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Strickland was born on January 18, 1931, in Muscatine, IA to the late Harry P. and Genevieve “Peggy” Heuer. She loved her dog- Peanut enjoyed shopping and gardening her flowers. Mrs. Strickland liked to decorate very much. She volunteered for 18 years at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband- Carl David Strickland, daughter- Vicki Lyn Strickland, sons- Dennis Craig Strickland and Donnie Carl Strickland, and her brothers- Don Heuer and Marlin Heuer.

Mrs. Strickland is survived by her daughters- Cheryl (Robby Shimp) Abernathy of Columbus, MS, and Donna Strickland of Columbus, MS; daughter-in-law- Linda Strickland of Calhoun, GA; sons- Ricky (Patricia) Strickland of Hamilton, MS and Harry Randall “Randy” Strickland of Columbus, MS; grandchildren- Brian Rowley, Victor (Amy) Strickland, Crystal Strickland, Amber (Jacob) Hester, Brandy (Jason) Lucas, Justin (Wanda Myers) Abernathy, and Michael (Ashley) Tedford; great-grandchildren- Taylor Rowley, Brooke Scott, Jacey Cuaravino, Autumn Lucas, Jakob Hester, Wesson Lucas, Lindsey Strickland, Megan Strickland, Carter Tedford, Destanie Shimp, Ian Myers, Saige Hester, Harper Strickland, and Lathan Tedford; and one brother- Darwin Heuer.

Pallbearers will be Randy Strickland, Ricky Strickland, Justin Abernathy, Michael Tedford, Jason Lucus, Brian Black, and Robby Shimp. Honorary pallbearers will be Cedell Hudgins, Members of Our Savior Lutheran Church, and Jessica Andrews.
