After Mary passed away, he married to Lulu Tehee who subsequently preceeded him in death in 1983.
Jim loved to play the fiddle and always carried it with him to family events and gatherings. When they lived in Leahy, Washington, Jim was required to carry water from the well to the house as a very young boy. His mom was a midwife and delivered over 100 babies in the county while they lived in Eastern Washington. As payment for one delivery Amelia received a fiddle, which she gave to Jim. Thus began his love of music and the fiddle. Jim played at dances nearly every Saturday night after he was married to earn money for the family. During that time he got to know and played with Buck Richy and the K-Six Wranglers. In later years he frequently participated in the Weiser, Idaho Old Time Fiddling Competition. In one of the last years there he was named Champion for his age division.
Taken from The Calvert Family Book, edited by Wilma Grace Hurd Shaw and published in August 1991.
