HOUSTON — John "Big John" Botter passed away on July 12, 2013 at Friendswood Health Care Center. He was born on October 1, 1925 in Alvin, TX to his late parents, James Winston and India Anna Botter.

John was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Roxie Uvonne Botter and his second wife of 20 years, Marjorie Crow Botter. Also preceded in death by two brothers, J.W. Botter, Stacy Botter, his two sisters, Delilah Stanberry and Dorothy Willeford all of Alvin.

Left to cherish his memories are his three children; Diana Kovar (Stan) of San Augustine, TX, Mike Botter (Bunnye) of Kilgore, TX, and Margaret Bowling (Richard) of Santa Fe, TX. John had nine grandchildren and twenty nine great-grandchildren and his favorite times were the family reunions at his son's home every summer.

John was in the Air Force and served as a navigator. He loved sports and was the "voice of Santa Fe" at the football home games for many years. He loved his Houston Oilers and had season tickets until they left Houston. He also had a handicapping service called "Oil City Hotline" where he posted the ads for college games and the NFL.

This was his favorite hobby when he wasn't working at his nurseryman job. He was in the nursery business from his early 20's and worked until age 83 at Cornelius Nursery on Dairy Ashford in Houston. He had a nursery in Alta Loma named Altex Nsy. which is now the area the HEB and Jr. High stands. John was one of the first nurserymen to be certified in Texas and served as President of the TAN (Texas Association of Nurserymen) in 1967.

He was also on the SF school board and was so proud to present three of his grandchildren their diplomas at their graduations.

John requested cremation and there will be a memorial service to celebrate his life on July 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery. His grandson, Richard Bowling of Bloomfield, NM will officiate the service and sing.
