Dorothy May “Dottie” Hodgkins, 95, of Rockford, IL, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 peacefully after a short illness. She was born July 11, 1922 in Chattanooga, TN, the daughter of Clark and Margarita Long. Dottie married the love of her life, Bill Hodgkins, in February of 1940. He preceded her in death in 2003. She worked as a supervisor of the Children’s department at Bergner’s for 30 years. Dottie was a member of the Rockford Christian Women’s Connection, where she participated in bible studies. She enjoyed making hats, shopping, and dancing with Bill at the Wagon Wheel. Dottie loved to travel, and made trips to Florida yearly. Dottie is loved and missed by her son, David (Marje) Hodgkins; granddaughter, Rebecca (Owen) Tierney; great-grandsons, Jack and Declan Tierney, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, grandson, Christopher Hodgkins, brothers, Clark, Jr., and Donald, and sisters, Margaret Ann, Charlotte, Joy and June. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115.
