Cause of Death: Severed left arm when freight train struck truck he and 2 friends were riding in. They had stopped for a passenger train, started to cross and were hit by freight train. Fred died on the way to the hospital.

Son of Fred & Alice (Clark) Abbe and husband of Josephine Mary (Wardwell) Abbe, whom he m. 29 Nov 1911 in Springfield, MA.

FREDERICK D. ABBE KILLED IN ACCIDENT
Hazardville, Ct., May 13--Frederick D. Abbe, 55, a native of this place, was killed last night at a grade crossing at Wareham on Cape Cod by a freight train. Two men who were with him were thrown clear of the truck. Mr Abbe spent all of his life here until a year and a half ago when he moved with his family to West Dennis. He was a member of the Methodist church.
He leaves his widow, who was Miss Josephine Wardell; four daughters: Mrs. John Halloran of Shrewsbury and Gertrude, Thelma and Loretta at home, his mother, Mrs Alice Abbe of Springfield; a brother Charles of this place, and four sisters: Miss Cora Abbe, Mrs Frederick Miller and Mrs Otto Segar, all of Springfield and Mrs Ellen Zimmerman of Staten Island, N. Y. The funeral will be held at the home of his brother Charles Abbe of this place Sunday afternoon at 2. Rev C. Homer Ginns will officiate. Burial will be in the new cemetery.
