Memorials to People First of Redwood Falls would be much appreciated by Alan's friends.
Arrangements are with the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls.
Alan Hoskins Keith, the son of Rev. John David Keith and Stella Genevieve (Hoskins) Keith, was born September 12, 1931 in Willmar.
He spent his early childhood with his family in the Morgan and Delhi areas, moving with them to Granite Falls in 1937.
Alan was diagnosed with epilepsy and as a result, when he was 13 years old, he became a resident of Cambridge State Hospital. He resided at Cambridge until moving to the Robert Milton Home in Redwood Falls when it opened in September 1967.
Alan began his employment at Service Enterprises in 1974. He did assembly there until his semi-retirement in 1998.
Alan was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Redwood Falls. He was a charter member of the Redwood Roamers leisure group which formed in February 1984.
Alan later asked Mayor Dick Anderson to sign a proclamation naming October 4-10, 1987 as Community Living Week and Employ the Handicapped Week in Redwood Falls.
In 1998, Alan visited the state capitol during "ARC Day at the Capitol" where he asked legislators to support bills for durable medical equipment, Medical Assistance income standards, and to fund more "waivered slots." Alan was actively involved in the Redwood Roamers (later named People First) in Redwood Falls.
He enjoyed trains and collecting models of cars, trucks and tractors. Alan liked to cut out and sort pictures of all sorts of things from magazines that friends would bring to him. He loved to sit out in the yard in his glider rocker.
Alan is survived by his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Anne Cates on March 1, 2010; and his brother John David Keith, Jr. in 1941.
Blessed be his memory.
