Michael G. Schreck, Sr., 68, passed away at his home surrounded by his family in Chetek on July 7, 2018, after a long battle with prostate and lung cancer. He was born June 30, 1950, to George and Helen (Briggs) Schreck.
On Sept 7, 1968, he married Barbara L Bell. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for a local company for 35 years, and then went on to work for Antczak Construction out of Cameron for the last 3 years.
Michael is survived by his wife, Barbara of Chetek; two sons, Michael Jr. (Karrie Lynch) of Bloomer and Norm (Carrie) of Bloomer; two daughters, Michelle (Shawn) Werle of Cadott and Nicki of Eau Claire; ten Grandchildren, Mike (Samantha) King, Natalie and Aiden Tiesman, Kayla Conley, Aubray Werle, Donavin Sweeney, Teardra, and James Schreck, Isabell and Gabriell Redfern; three Great-Grandchildren, Evalynn King, Madison and Bella Peterson; three sisters, Lorraine (Rich) Cooley, Arlene Boyea and Georgetta Reed; three sisters-in-law, Demi (Ed) Boyle, Teresa (Ron) Schroeder and Becky (George) Andersen; four brothers-in-law, Dusty Bell, Terry Bell, Reb (Jorden Marwitz-Nelson) Bell, and Wes (Diane) Pitzer; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; several siblings; his daughter, Tracie R. Schreck; and his lap companion, Pepper.
In his younger years, Mike built and ran stock cars on race tracks in surrounding areas. Mike is one of the original founders of the Wheaton T-ball in 1980 and later in 1982 softball was started. Mike and his wife owned and operated Schreck’s Hobble Inn from 1982 to 1985 before moving to Palm Springs, CA.
Mike enjoyed trying new and exciting adventures, parasailing, deep sea fishing, hunting out west, and Canadian fishing trips with good friends annually. Also, playing poker at family gatherings, grilling for reunions and family. He also loved going on yearly anniversary trips with Barb seeing the sites and camping.
Mike was one of the original members of the Chippewa Fire Protection District 2 (Wheaton) which started in 1977. He became a certified First Responder in 1980. When he moved to Chetek he joined the Wildlife Restoration Association and Buck Lake Sportsman club.
Mike dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the time of service on Thursday all at the funeral home.
