Funeral services for Ms L Roselyn Purdy of 503 N. Mayo Street, who died Saturday, August 3, 1985 at Sumter Regional Hospital, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 1985 at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend R L Freeman officiating. She was born in Americus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Purday. She attended Americus Institute, studied music at Fisk University in Nashville, TN and graduated with a BA degree from Spellman College in Atlanta. She completed post-graduate degree from Hampton Institute in Hampton, VA and studied at Albany State College and Columbia University of New York City. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, served as organist for 25 years. She taught school in Americus and Sumter County schools many years. Survivors include 5 cousins, Mrs. Mabel Warren and Mrs. Jacquelyn Fry of Atlanta, Mrs. Jean Granger of Newark, NJ, Mrs. Erma Hart of Americus and Mrs. Bernice Mitchell of Smithville.
