Robert Henry Hoch, 88, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006 at the Highlands Health Care in Bella Vista, Ark. He was born on June 28, 1918 in Duluth, to Hugo Henry Hoch and Ann 'Neta' Chute Hoch.
Robert served four years on Active Duty. The balance of 36 years was in the Army National Guard as Battalion Commander and later in the Army Reserve. He entered the Army as a Private and retired as a Colonel on June 28, 1978. His civilian employment was for the city of Duluth as Department Head for Civil Defense and later Head Start where he received numerous commendations and awards.
He was a member of the Duluth Kiwanis Club, Military Officers Association of America, Bombay Bicycle Club, United Way (Duluth). He moved to Bella Vista seven years ago from Duluth. He attended the Bella Vista Community Church, was a member of Crime Watch and a driver for the Courtesy Van.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Donald Hoch and Richard Hoch.
He is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Elizabeth Hoch; two sons, Robert (Juliana) Hoch of Loveland, Colo., Stephen (Vicky) Hoch of Portland, Oregon; two daughters, Lisa Hoch of Superior, Wisc., Deborah Hoch and husband Kurt Nelson of Minneapolis; four sisters, Jeanne (Richard) Bibby of Duluth, Lode Cochrane of Stillwater, Minn., Phyllis Spencer of Duluth, Frances (Edward) Peterson of Benton Harbor, Mich.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
