Cornelius Vanderbilt III had been dead only a short time when his body was found in a first-floor hall of his oceanfront mansion Thursday morning. He had been stabbed to death, and his body was found by James Brunton, 37, who has shared Vanderbilt's home on Staten Island for five years, police said Friday. There are no suspects and there was no sign of forced entry, Lt. William Quinn said. He said Brunton had been asleep upstairs and came down to investigate noises. Vanderbilt, 72, headed Vanbro Construction Co. and was distantly related to the 19th century rail baron. The death was ruled an Accident by police, Mr. Vanderbilt had a heart attack while preparing food, stabbing himself & it was the actual cause of his death.
