Miss Townstry*, a girl of only sixteen summers, jumped from the K&M railroad bridge at Gauley at about 11 o'clock Thursday (March 19th) and committed suicide.
It is not known what caused the young woman to seek death in the cold waters of Gauley, but there are hints of a love affair as the primary cause. Probably the real reason will never be known.
Miss Townstry* was from New Richmond, a town on the O & O, not far from Hinton, but had been the guest of the family of W.D. Thomas at Gauley Bridge for about 3 months. She was a popular young lady and the community is much shocked over the sad tragedy.
