Creighton MO - Randolph Wells, eldest son of Daniel and Sarah Wells was born near Warrensburg, Missouri, February 2, 1852. In 1872 he was united in marriage with Jane Page. To this union were born two sons and a daughter, the daughter died in infancy and the mother passed away in the fall of 1878. In 1881 he married Mrs. Rose Parkerson. She passed away February 1, 1885, leaving the third son only a few hours hold. August 20, 1885, he married Miss Alice Bellomy who became the mother of two sons and three daughters. March 27, 1894, death entered the household to take her to join two of her children who had gone on before. In 1900 he married Mrs. Sarah Franklin, who passed away July 6, 1923. Mr. Wells was again left alone. Most of his life has been spent in or near Cass county. In 1939 while making his home with a son, Alfred Wells, Mr. Wells fell and broke his leg. Since that time he has made his home with a daughter, Mrs. J. H. Coleman and husband. He became able to walk about on crutches although his health has been failing since that time. He took seriously ill April 14 and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Coleman, May 14, 1941, age 89 years, 3 months and 12 days. He leaves to mourn his passing seven children, Alfred and Henry Wells of Creighton, Charley and George Wells of Lamar, Franklin D. Winkler of Pleasant Hill, James Wells whose address is unknown, and Mrs. J. H. Coleman of Creighton, 33 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. One sister, Miss Tena Wells of Clinton, four nieces and one nephew. He united with the Christian church at Creighton during a revival conducted by the Rev. Lane in August 1906. Funeral services were held at the home, May 15. The service was given by Ralph Creighton of Collins, a former resident of Creighton and friend of Mr. Wells with whom he had made plans 18 years ago. His text was Genesis 49:29:33. The ladies quartet composed of Miss Lena Randolph, Mrs. C. R. Lindsey, Mrs. A. N. Gregg and Mrs. George A. Gregg sang three lovely songs. The Rev. Mrs Walter Barth and husband sang a duet. Burial was made in the Kepner cemetery under the direction of Arnold's. Pall bearers were J.R. McCoy, C. T. Grosshart, A.T. Maupin, Dorsey West, L.L. Crotchett and A. O. Turner.

"Father dear has gone to rest
No troubles disturb him, no fear annoy;
Where never a sin will stain his breast
No cloud to o'er shadow his innocent joy;
His head is pillowed on Jesus breast
Our dearest father is sweetly at rest."

According to notes (in my possession) written by Randolph's daughter, Amanda, Randolph accompanied Amanda to Kepner cemetery about 1939 to show her where he was to be buried. He pointed out the graves of his first two, and fourth, wives and two of his children and told Amanda that her mother and sister (his 3rd wife and daughter, Alice and Ella May Marie) were buried in LaDue, near Clinton. No markers have been found for his family in Kepner Cemetery, it is unlikely there ever were markers for Alice or daughter, Ella May Marie.

Interviews with family members/neighbors indicate that Randolph had a drinking problem and beat at least the first three wives, especially when they were pregnant, and it is aledged that he caused/contributed to all three of their deaths. (The Descendants of Exolhearth Page of Goochland County Virginia by Daniel F. Page, pg 207). In addition, my stepfather worked with one of Randolph's sons, Charley, who talked often about Randolph's cruelty to his wives.

Note: A family member indicates there was a metal marker with Randolph's name and dates, protected by a clear plastic covering, like a funeral home marker (which dau "Tina" has). As of 2007, there were three such markers beside Tina, but the labels with name/dates are no longer legible or are missing. One was probably Randolph's.
