Claudia Allen Thompson, 79, of White Oak, Ga., died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at SGHS Brunswick Campus.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. Marks Episcopal Church with the Rev. Alan Akridge officiating. Interment will follow in St. Marks Columbarium.

A reception will immediately following the service in the social hall.

Honorary pallbearers will include Dr. David Sudduth, Dr. Herman Levy, Dr. Stephen Chitty, Dr. Lana Skelton and staff, the staff of Marshes Edge, the staff of CCU and staff of PCCU and members of St. Marks Episcopal Church.

Born Dec. 16, 1929, in Davidson County, Tenn., to the late James Seward and Annie Elizabeth Allen, she was a retired educator.

Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn., where she studied drama and arts.

A former resident of Brunswick and Waynesboro, Mrs. Thompson served as president of Old Town. She was a member of the Coastal Area Support Team (CAST) and was instrumental in the Manna House and Habitat for Humanity programs in the area.

While residing in Waynesboro Mrs. Thompson was a journalist for The True Citizen newspaper and an educator in the Burke County School system. She was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church and was a daughter of The King.

She was an avid lover of nature and was known for always offering encouragement to others.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Judson McElmurray Thompson Jr., a granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Garnto and a sister, Marge McClarney

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Daniel and husband John Bird Daniel of St. Simons Island and Peyton Bryan and husband Roddie Bryan of White Oak, Ga.; four grandchildren, Marsha Erin Daniel, Elizabeth Callaway Daniel, Preston Bryan and Heaven Bryan; and a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

In Lieu of flowers memorial may be made to St. Marks Outreach, 900 Gloucester Street, Brunswick, GA 31520.
