Leland Earl Mayfield, 73 of Welch, passed away July 19, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Leland was born October 29, 1944 in Cherokee County, Kansas to Jasper Earl Mayfield and Elizabeth Ray (Sexton) Mayfield. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country with the United States Army Reserve.

On February 8, 1964, he married the love of his life, Carol Correll at the First Baptist Church in Chetopa, Kansas. The couple made their home in rural Welch where they raised their three sons.

Leland was known for many talents, his greatest being welding and pipe fitting. He had the privilege of working for Craig County District 2, Bills Coal Co., Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, KS, Landis Steel in Picher, Joe Plummer in Chetopa, and Caylor Construction in Missouri. After many years of perfecting his trade, he went to work for himself. He had many clients from the farming and ranching community, where he made many friends. He was a member of the Welch Baptist Church.

His greatest moments were those he made while spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lee Mayfield; and a sister, Louise Wagner.

Leland will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Carol, of the home; 3 sons, Travis and wife Kama of Lebanon, Tenn., Kevin and wife Dawn of rural Welch, and Tim and wife Kristy, also of rural Welch; 11 grandchildren, Braden, Madison, Kade, Brianna, Brett, Brice, Ava, Gavin, Jasper, Evie, and Lennan; 2 nieces; and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Welch. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Welch Baptist Church. Pastor Ralph Heiney will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Welch Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Stan Corn, Mike Brady, Bob Eubanks, Butch Garrett, Dale Tullis, and James Rupert. His grandsons will serve as honorary casket bearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Welch Baptist Church, c/o Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service, P.O. Box 231, Welch, OK 74369.
