LUCAS - MABEL BERRY had a never-ending song on her lips. Her melodies of joy, comfort and graciousness were a glimpse into the heart of a woman overflowing with love. Those words may be forgotten, but the tune - and the delightful singer who found a reason to sing in every circumstance - will always be remembered.

Mabel passed to sing for the Lord Friday morning July 20, 2018 from Winchester Terrace. She was 100.

Born Mabel Bishop January 28, 1918 in Mansfield to William and Emma (Hannan) Bishop, she was graduated from Hayesville High School, and remained a lifelong Mansfield and Lucas resident.

She had worked with Westinghouse, Hartman Electric, and retired as a cook from Lucas Schools in 1978. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, she more recently attended Owl Creek Church of the Brethren in Ankenytown, and dearly missed the fellowship when she was no longer able to attend.

A radio singer in her youth, Mabel played the guitar and the piano by ear. Her favorite song: "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" was a nod to her love for the Cleveland Indians. She also followed OSU football, and all family activities - she dearly loved her family! Mabel elevated cooking and baking to an art form: her double crust apple pie was a masterpiece, her chocolate chip cookies cannot be duplicated, and her scalloped potatoes with sausage were the best!

She is survived by sons David (Jeanne) Berry and James (Judy) Berry all of Lucas; grandchildren Michelle (Teri) Sweatt of Waco, Texas, Maureen Dellerba of Chesapeake, Virginia, Eric (Dawn) Berry of Bedford, New Hampshire, and Tim (Susanna) Berry of Huntsville, Alabama; great-grandchildren Xavier, Ryan, Carter, Hailey, Toby, Sam, Jordan, Grace, Julianna and Tayja; sisters-in-law Beulah Bishop, Ruth Berry and Betty Berry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leo L. Berry; brothers John Bishop and Gilbert Bishop and sisters Mildred Schaub and Miriam McFarland.

The Berry family will receive guests Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her home-going service will immediately follow at 6 p.m. Pastor Charles Barnhill will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory to Winchester Terrace Activities Fund may be made at the funeral home. Her family acknowledges the tender loving care Mabel received from the nurses, aides, staff and administrators at Winchester Terrace - and thanks them!
