June 1, 1946 - July 19, 2018 Darlene Parker VanWinkle, 72, of Berea, died Thursday, July 19, 2018 at U.K. Hospital in Lexington. She was a life-long resident of Madison County born June 1, 1946 daughter of the late Enos and Fairy McHone Parker, retired Berea College laundry employee with 40 years of service and attended Berea Church of God. Darlene loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoyed reading her Bible, witnessing to people and singing with The Pearly Gate Singers. Her hobbies included cooking, bird watching and mailing cards to anyone who needed up-lifting.
Survivors include her loving husband, Boyd “Shorty” VanWinkle; 2 children, Jr. Chasteen (Regina), Trina Howard (Jason); step-daughters, Patricia, Marquita, Willie, Ramona; siblings, Betty Adams, Tubby Parker (Bethel Lee), Helen Powell (Chester), Debbie Quinley (Roy); grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan, Myra, Kimberly, Mishay, Faith, Tucker, Labriska, Breana; 16 great grandchildren; as well as numerous step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and church family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 2 siblings, Bonnie Baker, Ralph Parker.
Funeral Service 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Berea Church of God with Pastor Stephen Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 – 9:00 PM Monday at the church. Pallbearers will be Jason Howard, Matt Smith, Justin Richardson, Jordan Chasteen, Shawn Sandlin, Tucker Strong. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Quinley, Chester Powell, Tubby Parker, Jonathan Wilburn, Douglas Ray Parker, Joe Parker.
