Alice Griffith, age 93, of Olivia died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services are Friday 11:00 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Joel Luetke officiating. Burial is in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday 5-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and continues at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Alice Elizabeth Griffith was born on March 5, 1919, in Delhi Township, Redwood County, MN, to John D. and Abigail Alice (Gray) Stevenson. She was baptized in 1921 at Delhi Presbyterian Church in Delhi, Minnesota. Alice was confirmed in March of 1939, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmet Township. She attended Redwood County Schools through the 8th grade, and continued her education at Redwood Falls High School, graduating in May of 1938.
Alice was united in marriage to Daniel J. Zaske on November 20, 1938, at her grandparents home in Delhi. Alice and Daniel made their home on a farm south of Renville and lived there until 1957, when they moved to Danube. Daniel passed away on January 18, 1981. Alice was united in marriage to Rowland Griffith, Sr. on February 15, 1992 and they made their home in Olivia. Rowland passed away on November 11, 2002.
Alice worked as a nurse at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia for 21 years, retiring in 1981. She also did housework in addition to working at the hospital in Olivia.
She enjoyed taking care of elderly people, and she helped organize the Minnesota Prairie Owls. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and their spouses and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Olivia and she taught Sunday School for many years.
Alice is survived by her daughter Ruth (and Larry) Wittmers; her son Robert (and Diane) Zaske; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, two brothers, and three sisters.
