Charles was the son of Robert Edward Nelson and Ella Beulah Burchall. He married Harriet G. Garrison on 25 Nov. 1922 in Trenton, Mercer Co., NJ.

Note: His obituary in the Trenton Times, Trenton, NJ, 27 Mar. 1958, states that he was survived by a sister, Mrs. Charles Hixon of Washington, NJ, and four brothers: William B. Nelson of Trenton, NJ; Clifford C. Nelson of Morrisville, PA; Robert E. Nelson of Buckingham, PA; and Harold A. Nelson of Louisville, KY.
