CORA BAER, WELL KNOWN RESIDENT, DIED SATURDAY
Mrs. Cora BAER, widow of Elmer E. BAER, died early Saturday morning, September 24, at his home in Steamboat Springs. She was 70 years old. Mrs. BAER had been ill for a year. She became seriously ill Tuesday and did not get up after that.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Congregational church. Rev. Benson Male was in charge of the services. A trio consisting of Mrs. E. H. Zimmerman, Mrs. Ira Stukey and Miss Alice Paine sang two songs. The pallbearers were Sam STEVENS, William Clay SHAW, H. C. MONSON, J. H. BURROUGHS, H. P. HEID and Ira STUKEY.
Cora Amarette BARBER was born August 09, 1868, in Fulton, Illinois. She received her early education in the public schools in Fulton and also attended Northern Illinois college there. She began teaching school at the age of 17.
The family moved to White City, Kansas, and after she finished the school term in Fulton she joined them there. She met Elmer E. BAER there and in 1893 they were united in marriage. Their only child, Alma, was born in White City.
In 1904 Mr. and Mrs. BAER moved to Steamboat Springs. Mr. BAER's two brothers, Charles and Tom, were already living in Steamboat.
Mrs. BAER joined the Royal Neighbor lodge in White City and Became affiliated with that lodge here. She was the recorder of the lodge for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, being a past matron, and she was also a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood.
Mr. and Mrs. BAER too Mabel ACTON, now Mrs. G. O. BISHOP, to live with them when she was seven years old after her mother died. She was reared as one of their own children.
Mrs. BAER was the oldest of eight children. One brother died when a small child and another brother, Harley BARBER, who was a resident of Routt county for many years, died in 1934. The surviving brothers and sisters are Percy BARBER, White City, Kansas; Mrs. H. M. HOOK, Long Beach, California; Mrs. M. E. BURTON, White City, Kansas; Mrs. Inis McPHAIL, Glendale, California; Vern BARBER, Osage, Kansas.
Elmer BAER preceded his wife in death by two years. He died July 22, 1936.
Two sisters, Mrs. H. M. HOOK and Mrs. M. E. BURTON came to Steamboat Springs for the funeral. They were the only relatives able to be present. They stayed several days with Alma, who plans to stay here for the winter.
