Lucy Jean (Rowand) Exton, 80, of Washington Township, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. She was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Fairmont, W.Va., a daughter of the late Caleb L. and Mary Showalter Rowand. Prior to retirement in 1987, she was a professional cook for the J.C. Penney Co., Monroeville. Lucy had many interests, including coaching girls softball, Lawn-Boy mechanic, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and, most importantly, being with family and friends. She was the beloved wife of 62 years of Thomas Exton; mother of Thomas Lee Exton and wife, Kathy, of Omaha, Neb., Jeannie Sloss and husband, Joel, of Atlanta, Ga., Jerry Exton and wife, Loretta, of Washington Township, and the late Judy Louise Wawrzyniakowski; mother-in-law of Raymond Wawrzyniakowski of North Carolina; grandmother of Robert Exton, Brett and Benjamin McCluske, Jadine and Bill Pilotti, Jennifer and Anthony Merklinger, Theresa and Tom Exton, and Brian Sloss; several great-grandchildren; sister of Edith Bondi and husband, Henry, of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Exton's family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, 724-468-8381, where the Rev. Peter Goetschius will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Friday. Interment will follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Memorial remembrances may be made in Mrs. Exton's name to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or to Poke Run Presbyterian Church, 1091 Poke Run Church Road, Apollo, PA 15613.
