Mom....

Helen Josephine Johnson (Masters), 88, of Leavenworth Kansas, went to be with our Lord on the evening of July 27, 2018.

She was born in Brunswick Missouri on February 15, 1930 to Mary Josephine (Kahler) and John Franklin Masters. She was the 7th of 11 children born to them.

She had three children by her first husband, Truman A. Barnes Sr. Rita Elizabeth, Truman A. Jr and Raymond Eugene. She married Carl Herman Johnson in 1958 and had two more children, Virginia Josephine (Ginny) and Carl Fredrick.

Helen was employed by National Bellas Hess in North Kansas City until 1970. She then became a homemaker and raised her 5 children and watched her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow.
She love to play cards! Rummy, Canasta, Hand and Foot were just a few. She would play Bingo with her mom and siblings over the years and taught her children how to enjoy life and to make the most of what you had.
She would read the tabloids and loved watching her STORYS! All My Children, Young and the Restless, Edge of Night , General Hospital....and she loved the Price Is Right!
Helen loved to cook and trying to find different things for the 7 in the family was always fun. Bread pudding was one of her favorite desserts to make and she never went a day without her coffee!

Helen and Carl travelled when they could, visting many states over the years.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband Carl; her parents Mary and John; brothers Murl (Bernice), Burl (Pauline), Bill, Charles and George Masters; sisters Esther Masters, Nancy Morlan (Don) Wilma Kaiser (Harold); and one grandson, Raymond Eugene Barnes Jr.

Helen is survived by two brothers, Robert Masters of Linn Missouri and Jerry (Karen) Masters of Union Missouri.

Her five children, Truman A. (Billy) Barnes Jr (Becky Ritterhouse) of Hampstead, Maryland; Rita, Raymond, Virginia and Carl (Jennifer Layton) all of Leavenworth; grandchildren Kathy Barnes Winfrey (Matt), Crystle Barnes (Joey Shay), Michael Barnes all of Ottawa Kansas; India Brinkerhoff (Richard) of North Pole Alaska; Julia Billings of Clinton Missouri, Nicole McKenzie Johnson, Cody and Ella Layton of Leavenworth Kansas, 15 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Per Mom's wishes, there was no visitation. Cremation. A Celebration of Life will take place August 26, 2018 at 5pm at Leavenworth Landing Park in Leavenworth Kansas. The family asks that you wear something purple or grey....purple was her color and grey for the elephants that she loved so much.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks conributions to final arrangements be made or donations to your local hospice.

We would like to thank Mom's many doctors, nurses and health care providers that helped her over the years. Thanks to all of our family and friends for being there for us...and a special thank you to our sister Ginny...who cared for both Mom and our Dad for the past 20 years.
Mom was mom, grandma and friend to all....she will be missed.
