Penny Lynn (Shuman) Embrey, 44, St. Joseph, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 7, 2009, at a Kansas City, Kan., Hospital. She was born July 31, 1965, in St. Joseph, daughter of Toni and Richard Shuman. She attended Benton High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church. Penny was preceded in death by husband, Roy Embrey Sr.; and a son, Michael Embrey. Survivors include father, Denny Shuman and wife Pam, Forest City, Mo.; mother, Toni Shuman and companion Buck Kerns, St. Joseph; two sons, Roy and Kyle Embrey, St. Joseph; daughter, Katie Embrey, St. Joseph; paternal grandmother, Marie Shuman, St. Joseph; maternal grandfather, Burley Scroggins, Easton, Mo.; three grandchildren, Cole, Zach, and Caden; a brother, Dennis Shuman Jr. and wife Stacy; a step-brother, Zach Long; a sister, Cookie Walker and husband Terry; two step-sisters, Tonya Cotton, and Laurie Harrington; several, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Funeral service; 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph, Fr. Joseph Totton officiating. Rosary: will be recited Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph.
