Anastasia was the daughter of James Sweeney and Catherine Sweeney nee Ryan who both emigrated from Ireland. She had a younger sibling James.

Anastasia married James Bernard Bowler on 27 July 1905 in Salt Lake City, Utah. James started his Chicago career as a clerk at City Hall in Chicago. He moved on to Alderman, a position he held for decades, before becoming a US Congressman.
